Just a question out of curiosity. I've read on this forum numerous times that the problem with an MBA with a view towards teaching is that, as a generalist degree, the courses will be listed under so many different fields that it is usually not enough to teach any particular subject. However, I noticed that the Wayne State College MBA lists all but one courses, even the subject-specific courses, under the code BUS. Would that make it more suitable for teaching?

Also- do schools generally prefer adjuncts whose degees have one of the two fancy programatic accreditations?

The problem with the BUS designation is that some schools require a specific code to qualify towards the18 hour minimum requirement. Personally, I don't have enough credits in any one area to qualify to teach, though some of the general business designated courses could easily be considered marketing classes. I'm closest in the areas of business law with 12 credits and finance with 15.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I posted my question. I wondered if courses being labeled BUS would be way too general to teach any specific course- like a course being labeled LA (for liberal arts)... and then expecting to use it to teach courses that fall under the Liberal Arts umbrella :Eyecrazy:

You will most likely need the correct prefix. Finance requires an FIN prefixed classes to teach. I do not think it is a hard and fast rule but it is something to gear your credits toward. I have the following that fall into different groups and I am not sure if they would count as finance / healthcare courses for teaching:

Healthcare Related Classes - 15 credits
PHA 5270 - Law, Healthcare, and Patient Safety (3 credits)
    PHA 5272 – Risk Management & Liability (3 credits)
PHA 5271 - Introduction to Health Care Risk Management , Quality Improvement & Compliance (3 credits)
    PUB5006 - Public Health Administration (3 credits)
HCA5012 - Heath Care Financial Management (3 credits)*

Finance Related Classes - 14 credits
MGT5005 - Management Finance and Control (3 credits)
HCA5012 - Heath Care Financial Management (3 credits)*
    FIN501 - Strategic Corporate Finance (4 credits)
ACC501 - Accounting for Decision Making (4 credits)

*HCA5012 - Heath Care Financial Management falls into both groups
