I finished my mentorship course with Axia and have been "officially" hired, and have received 2 course solicitations so far. I turned down the first one as I am about to have a baby in the next couple of weeks and it was too soon, and I have just received a second solicitation. It's going to be a little soon after the baby is born and I'd like to turn it down also, hoping for something a few more weeks out. My questions is, does anyone know how many times you can turn down the solicitations before they stop coming? Are they automatically generated, or is someone going to look at this and think it's fishy? Ideally I would like to start when the baby is 6-8 weeks old, but I don't want to push my luck and then never hear from then again. I believe that to maintain my position I have to teach at least one course within 6 months from being hired, correct? So theoretically they should still keep coming for a while? Any knowledge or advice is appreciated! Thanks.
I am not sure there is any specific number or amount of time, but Axia does things differently from UoP. My suggestion is to contact your scheduler and advise him/her of the fact you are having a baby and when you anticipate you will be available.
I facilitate two courses in PSY. I like one more than the other (greatly). I have been offered two of the less-liked option EVERY WEEK for at least a month now. I turn them down hoping to get an offer for the more-liked option. This is the first time that I haven't accepted all offers - and they keep on coming.
I am going through the mentorship now and this is the last week of classes. So I wanted to know what the process from here on is if I complete the mentorship successfully. In the 9 weeks I was only late once in submitting the feedback otherwise I think I did pretty well so hoping for a successful completion. Also, when will I see a solicitation for the next course?
I received my first two solicitations before my mentorship was over. However, my mentor told me that that was quite unusual.
It really depends on the classes you are teaching and the need for them. Mentees that I had with ECON classes received solicitations before their mentorship course was over. Mentees in Public Admin. often waited for a few months for their first course.
I have heard from other faculty members that you can continually turn them down until you hit the end of your time limit between classes and they will continue to come. However, I only see about five solicitations a year, so I tend to accept them all.
After you turn in your final grades your mentor will give you a final feedback report for the last week, and then you should hear something about finishing up and good work and thank you etc... I was told that I would hear about being hired for more classes within 2 weeks, and heard back in about one week. The solicitations started coming about 2 weeks after that. I've gotten 3 so far and turned them down, but I'll likely take the next one (if it comes) because anything after the start date they just gave would be fine. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck!
^ Thanks, that helps I have just submitted the final grades so hopefully in next couple of weeks I will start seeing the solicitations.
