I have heard a lot about the RA job market being very competitive for adjuncts; is the same true for DETC schools? Is it "easier" to find a DETC job? Is the pay comparable? Could DETC teaching experience be a boon on one's resumé if one wanted to teach at an RA college one day? Note: For my adoring fans, NO, these questions are not related to my future. They are out of curiosity. Additionally, I think it is information that may be of help to others :reporter:
RA = "regionally accreditation" = more prestigious accreditation. Example: Western Association of Schools and Colleges; distinct from "national accreditation" which is less prestigious. Discussion of why one is more prestigious and the meaning of the difference for students and other stakeholders (i.e. is one really better, and if so how?) is a "favorite topic" on this forum, as is accreditation in general. DETC = Distance Education and Training Council = most prominent (possibly the only one?) national accreditor. Phillip :borladuck:
I'm not trying to start a debate but, "more prestigious accreditation"? That might be a little strong, how about we use more accepted!
Because DETC schools charge lower than RA schools they tend to hire markers rather instructors. Many pay as low as $10 per student. You can do better at a local University if you mark for a professor and you don't need a master for this.
