Over the past few months I have been having trouble finding an online teaching position in Criminal Justice. Since 2008, I had good fortune in finding two adjunct brick and mortar teaching jobs, but I would like to teach an extra CJ course or two online to get a little extra income. I have tried my local community college, Kaplan, University of Phoenix and Grand Canyon University. I hold an M.A. in Criminal Justice from a state school and have about 23 years experience working in the criminal justice system. I would be grateful for any suggestions!
Besides hitting the more common online schools (DeVry, EDMC, etc.), the only way I know of is to keep sending out your resume and filling out applications. I guess I have submitted several hundred apps since I got my MA. It took me about 7 months to get my first online job. After that, they came more regularly. You might be able to get one of the schools you B&M teach for to give you an online class. Unfortunately, I don't know any shortcuts, so to speak. Just keep plugging away.
As far as Phoenix goes, your best bet is to talk to someone at a UOP campus local to you if avaialble and see if you can get your foot in the door there teaching an onground class - after you are in the system getting into their online classes is a lot easier.
