Does anyone know of schools that hire regionally accredited MBAs to teach or instruct online classes?

From what I have seen, it depends on the courses in the MBA degree. Typically, an MBA is a generalized degree although there may be individual specializations such as Finance or Accounting.

An MBA with a specialization in fianance would not fare as well against someone with an MS in Finance for a finance faculty position, but may do better than someone with a general MBA.

I have had some interaction with people that do online hiring and they note that they get a lot of MBA applicants, but they do not have enough credits (18 hours is the guideline) to be qualified to teach in any one area.

Other than that, I really cannot answer your question without more information from you.

    It depend

Truckie is entirely correct. With the job market the way it is, PhDs are competing for online positions along with folks with "only" masters degrees. The 18 hour rule is also usually - but not always - a barrier for folks with just an MBA. (It is 15 hours minimum according to some accreditor's rules.)

However, some community colleges - particularly in California - allow those without 18 hours to teach intro (freshman-level) classes with only an MBA.

I started teaching with only an MBA and added finance classes to get to 18 hours. I now teach undergrad and grad level finance BUT I also have 20+ years of finance industry experience. I also had connections to the hiring folks and happened to walk in when they needed to hire, so I was hired on the spot. Others may or may not be as lucky.

You could also try teaching on-the-ground first, especially for a technical school or a community college if you have no teaching experience. I've also seen positions such as mentors or "intro to online learning" instructors where a masters in any discipline is the only requirement. That may be a way to get your foot in the door. You could also add credits in an area to get you to the 15/18 minimum, which is what I did after my MBA.

Thank you MBAONLINE for your response. I wonder if the MBA would qualify to teach general or introductory business at a technical college?

Based on my research, I would say yes. Technical colleges even hire with only a bachelor's degree for some areas like bookkeeping or nutrition.

I would agree with my friend MBAONLINE - an MBA will probably qualify you to teach intro. business and management at the lower-division level. Keep in mind as discussed above, the competition for these jobs is fierce right now. I am mentoring a few new instructors at UOP right now who hold Doctorates from Tier 1 Universities and they are teaching intro. level business courses.
