Great entrepreneurial mindset. The only disturbing thing about the article, however, is that the author thinks that $100,000 is a lot of money.

    Hi Mundo,

I am not a HR compensation rep, however I am sure a significant number of professor's would disagree with your statement.

I understand. Hence the more reason to break-off of the pack and change the established paradigms. I applaud the author’s ability to blend his professional skills with a healthy dose of entrepreneurship.

It's all relative. It depends and where you live. If you live in Southern California, it's a pauper's wage. If you live in southern Tennessee, where some of the country's most affordable real estate is, then you can have a descent three-bedroom house paid for in less than two years and live debt-free.

It is very good money for an English teacher. Not so bad if you think that you have 3 months a year off.

I think, it is very good money for many professors. I wonder how many tenured professors make 100k today?

The guy has been doing it for many years. It takes time to get to that point. You need to be teaching the same courses for many years in order to optimize your time. You also need to be in an unionized environment with schools that can give you decent wages (not the case of online schools).

I know people with English PhDs that get an accounting or IT certifications to open more doors. Most schools pay you by the level of education so an English PhD with an IT certification can make a lot more than a BS in Computer Science.

The idea is to use your PhD at any place that is willing to pay for it.

I concur with your statement concerning the usage of the PHD. I hope to use mind to open doors to executive management within healthcare or the federal government.

Who is hungry for an online paycheck as an online professor?

That will continue to drive the online adjunct [pay] market downward and rarely upward.

It's all about supply and demand. In the beginning, it was difficult to find qualified adjunct professors with relevant experience and credentials to teach online courses; but now online adjuncts are becoming a dime a dozen. The UoP model will become the norm. You, as an adjunct professor, are expendable because there are lots of hungry people willing to take your position.

The writing is on the wall!

I was thinking the same thing. A salary or annual earnings of $100,000.00 is very good money.

Nothing last forever, make your money while you can. I'm currently teaching at a school with a worst model than UoP. Everything is automated but the final exam and assignments, they need to keep one instructor per course in order to maintain accreditation but you are paid about 40 bucks per student just to mark assignments and respond to questions. As automation starts to hit education, you will be seeing this model more frequently.

Do you teach at AJU? My experience teaching at AJU was somewhat similar.

If that turns out to be the case, I'm not sure how anyone can defend AJU as being equivalent to a regionally accredited college.

Sounds like the model that Columbia Southern University uses!

    $40 bucks?

Making $40 bucks a student, no way, you could make more $$$ selling soap on eBay?????
