I see that Kaplan is hiring for online adjuncts. I have also recieved some interest form Kaplan college, an on-site school near me. Can anyone give me some back ground information? Is this a good school to work for? Is it a good place to get experience and move on?
I have heard they are great to work for (online) but you have to commit a certain hour(s) of a certain day(s) each week for video lectures or some live interaction with the students. I heard they pay very also.
I currently work for Kaplan. You do have to set your office hours. Twice a week, for one hour on different days, you have to log onto AIM. This serves as your office hours. I do not have a problem with this, since most mobile phones have AIM, so if I am away from my laptop, then I can still log onto AIM. You also have to spend 1 hour each week, having an interactive session with students. You will need a computer and internet access for these sessions which are called seminars. You have great flexibility in setting your schedule office hours and seminar days. PM me if you have further questions.
I am currently in the training process for Kaplan. How is it to teach there? Any advice would be appreciated.
I have no experience with Kaplan but the employment reviews don't look so hot. http://www.jobvent.com/companyBrowse.php?CompanyID=4916&searchType=company&searchText=Kaplan%20University http://www.vault.com/companies/company_main.jsp?co_page=10&product_id=32164
For Kaplan, what is the typical timeframe for hiring from the time a CV has been submitted for an advertised opening?
I can tell you that it took them about a month to get back to me. Currently the university is undergoing restructuring in many of its departments, to allow for flexible degree plans and greater transfer of credits. There are also plans for doctorate programs in the future or so all of us adjunct faculty were told a few weeks ago. If you have not heard anything then you may want to apply again or contact the university via email.
