I currently am an IT Dept Chair with a MSM in Infosec and currently feel that I am way underpaid and really don't want to go back to work in the field. I currently am making $52000 a year with benefits and insurance. I am salaried and on top of that put in 50+ hours a week. I would like a better job where I am more valued. I was told by my current institution if I quit and came back later they would pay me more but that just seems wrong and I can't afford to lose the benefits. I have been teaching almost 2 years full time or as a chair and manage 8 adjuncts for one program and currently I am chairing a second dept with 3 adjuncts. In addition I have been forced to take on some of the Deans duties due to the lack of them hiring a Dean and also doing most of the career services for the college. I am totally overworked and underpaid and looking for a better situation right now I just have to take it because of the benefits. Any direction or help would be greatly appreciated even a direction. Thanks

If it makes you feel any better, that pay and your duties are exactly in line with where I work. (Community College) I was our department chair with teaching responsibility for 3 years with 6-9 adjuncts. Our current chair does not have a masters, and is earning in the 40's.
It's been a while, but I know I worked about 50 hours too, however I had total freedom to set my own hours- something you don't often have in industry!
I wish you the best, your in a good position to spring board to the next level, I hope you find a great job!
