Many of you know I teach culinary/hospitality on the ground at my local community college. I am so excited to say that we are adding some online courses very soon in my department! So, I get to spend this summer doing course development! In our program, I have always done the initial course development for all of our courses (around 35) but this is my first time developing courses for online delivery. I will be working on four, one of them will mirror a current course I teach and be mine to deliver, and three are new from scratch which may or may not be assigned to me; not sure at this stage. I am sooooooo excited I can hardly stand it!

So....has anyone here done much course development (online or off?) I will take a training course that our eLearning department offers (not sure what is involved)- but beyond that- I would love to hear any suggestions about how online course development strategy may differ.

Very nice. What ideas have you come up with? Are you developing online culinary courses?

"Criteria for success: I attended an online seminar for Online Educators, during which the following criteria were agreed upon as a starting point for creating a successful online course. They're listed in no particular order.

    # Clearly articulated objectives and expectations
    # An easily navigable web site
    # A course structure that facilitates collaborative learning
    # Assignments and activities that facilitate participation and communication among students
    # Timely feedback for students from the Instructor
    # An appropriate use of technologies to enhance learning
    # A discussion space for learners to talk openly about the course (expectations, uncertainty, what they like, dislike, their participation, progress etc.) "

    Jennifer,

Should you develop online culinary courses, you know where your students can send their final exams (packed in dry ice) for review and commentary. :D
