After applying about ten times I finally have an interview. The process seems to be as follows:
Apply online (I have done this about 10 times)
They ask for a resume (I have done this 2 times)
They have you complete an online interview form with about 12-15 questions (I have done this 1 time)
Complete a phone interview (schedule for this month)

If you want a position with UoP, just be relentless. You will get it but it may be a matter of time. By the end of the month I hope to report that an offer was extended and accepted.

I will keep you posted if you are interested.

Congrats! I have applied numerous times also and havent actually gotten the interview. I have been far more successful with traditional and local colleges when its come to adjunct opportunities, I just picked up 2 more local colleges that I will start teaching for in the summer.

Would you share how the phone interview goes? My wife actually has a phone interview with them coming up this week. And yes, it took a good while for her too, though this is the first time she's applied. The first message she recieved stated that the person would respond within 7-10 days. That is apparently UoP speak for 2 months. But finally, they got around to sending her those interview form questions, and now she's up for the phone interview.

    Another Approach....

....is to apply to a local campus, go through their process, then move to online.

I believe that these days, all on-campus instructors get qualified to teach online at the same time, at least that was their intent a few years ago. If they didn't follow through with that policy, you can still make the switch a lot more easily if you're already in the UoP system. (And you can teach for both the on-campus and online divisions. They're quite separate, but you can do both.)

Could you also share her experience? I have mine on 2/20.

Great, my wife hasn't heard back yet from the HR person with a specific date for her interview. I know you listed the process above, but she also told me that there's an additional step. If you get through the phone interview, they make you take a 5 week online training/class. That could be specific to the education programs though.

Not specific to education - there is a faculty certifcation course for everyone and then you will teach a class under the guidance of a "mentor". I had to complete the faculty training for both online and local delivery modalities.

The phone interview must be fairly new....I went through the certification process 3 years ago and there was no interview back then.

For all the slings and arrows thrown at UoP, I will say their faculty certification process was one of the biggest pains in the ass I've ever been through, due to its thoroughness. If you get a UoP adjunct job, you certainly earned it.

That would be the next step - have no gotten there yet.

Congratulations Randell! Let us know how it goes. I'm hoping to get in somewhere as well, anyplace just to get foot in. Good luck.

We did phone interviews with candidates when I was a chair in 2004.

I agree with Bruce's take on UoP's faculty certification process. Demanding and worthwhile.

I had sometype of preliminary phone conversation with an individual of Faculty Services Manager, Academic Affairs back on Jan 27/28th...she indicated that another indivdual would be corresponding with me within two weeks....I am still waiting. They indicated they are extremely interested in me adjuncting for them (Axia College/UOP), based on my credentials.

So I guess the waiting game is all I can do at this point.....I thought about conducting a followup call with the original person I spoke too, to determine if I had the correct person's name that was to call me - but I am not sure.

    What do you all think?

My wife originally applied with UoP back in December. They sent her an email saying they recieved her application, and told her they would contact her in 2 weeks. That turned into TWO MONTHS. Apparently UoP is a little slow. She completed the questionaire and phone interview, and we just found out today that she will be able to move on to the next step, completing the 5 week online training. However, they told her it would be about 5 months between now and when they have her actually start doing courses. Either way, it's a looooong process. I wish I could sign up as well, but they made it very clear that they wanted applicants to have at least 5 years of experience in the field. Oh well.

The 5-week training is actually being a student for an online "course", complete with papers & team assignments. It gives a unique perspective to be the student before taking over the controls yourself. And, you get paid for it.

I did not get paid for UOP online training in 2006. I got paid for on-ground though - maybe there is a one-time limit.

I have no doubt. No doubt at all. UoP has a terrible time assigning instructors to basic science classes (nutrition, physical geography, astronomy, etc.), and will leap at someone with a masters in a science area. The creation of Axia (targeting community college-level students) makes this even more so.

    It looks good!

If you got paid for it, it was a "local" decision. On-campus instructors should expect not to get paid for it, although I've heard of exceptions.

That's interesting. They never mentioned to her that the training was paid. That'd be nice. She's already taken classes through UoP, so she's familiar with the structure, but I'm sure the training will be a little different.

They told her it was $1200 for a 6 week graduate class. I would assume that's $200/credit, but I'm wondering if the 3 week continuing ed courses have the same payrate. Is it based on credits or weeks?
