I see in the August 28 edition of The Delta Statement a new President has been installed. He is Dr. John M. Hilpert. I am a proud graduate of Delta State!

Wow! This is indeed good and fascinating news. Perhaps Dr. Hilpert could answer a question that has been troubling me for some time.

Why is it that, out of more than 4000 DegreeInfo members, one member, all by himself, accounts for a full third of all recent threads started in the off-topic discussion forum?

Hey, it's Delta State. If you don't see the relationship to distance learning, I'll help you out.

Delta starts with a 'D' and distance starts witha 'D'. You'd think that would be obvious.

It appears that Delta State does offer a few courses via distance learning (Internet, off-campus), so the post is not atypical for this forum.

No, Russell, your post informing the members of this forum that Delta State offers courses via distance education (albeit only six courses in commercial aviation) is not atypical of this forum. Simply stating that an institution has a new president, with no other relevant information is atypical (of this forum). Jimmy provided us with the only reason for posting such information on this forum in the last line of his post. Moreover, Jimmy he knew his post had no relevance to distance education, and that is why he posted it in the off-topic forum.

Just for fun, anyone care to guess whose unique style of writing Jimmy was trying to emulate in his post?

Of course, none of this changes the fact that a full third of the threads recently started in the off-topic discussion forum have been started by Jimmy. Must we really be subjected to endless desperate cries for attention in the form of posts concerning politics, sports, theology, Elvis, butterflies, personal technological incompetence, and other inanities?

I posted this as I thought it was relevant. First, a number of those posting on here are looking for some programs and/or courses (not necessarily degrees) via distance learning. DSU provides some DL courses. Second, there have been numerous discussions about the credentials of those in academia. This post provides the name of a school offering DL courses and shows the solid academic credentials of its new president.

Actually, Vladica Russell's post showed the school's link to DL.
Dr Clifton's post showed Pres. Hilpert's link to Dr Clifton's undergraduate degree.
    Thank you for this information.

This thread notwithstanding I will be more careful. I enjoy discussing and debating a wide range of topics and issues for which I have an affinity. But, you're right. This is not a "free for all." I will use the political, boxing, etc., forums more often and avoid taking up time on here. I simply enjoy the feedback on here regarding various topics because there is such a tremendous amount of intellect, wisdom, knowledge and articulation here. And I have always vastly enjoyed and appreciated the incredible command of the English language Gus Sainz possesses. But, I will be more respectful of the intent of this forum and appreciate your reminder.

    4. DegreeInfo is a resource on distance learning. It is not, and was never intended to be, a general free-for-all discussion forum. We do have an off-topic forum, but it was intended as a sort of "water cooler" place where people that usually discuss distance learning can make the occasional comment that doesn't fit elsewhere. We did not intend for the off-topic forum to be a place where anyone spends the majority of his/her time. If you find yourself doing that, you should probably find a different

Mike: Gus. This may be troubling to you also. Of the last 269 threads in the off-topic forum, 93 came from just 3 members, not including Jimmy Clifton.
Note: Last 60 days posting in the off-topic forum totaled 269 threads. This may have increased since.

After this statement--by MikeT--, there was no further participation--by Dr Clifton--in a thread which had been skeptical of a certain degree conferral by Dr Clifton upon Dr Veerman.

    Uncle,

If one has followed most of the threads in the recent and not-so-recent past, one would notice that words, phrases, and styles are appropriated for a short time by many posters on this forum (and likely all forums.) I wonder if any research exists on this strange phenomenom? Of course, I am probably as guilty of this innocent plagiarism as anyone, yet I notice it in others' posts. LOL

Hi Tony: I don't know. I wonder about the even stranger phenomenon of the "helper posters," the persons who post rarely but tend to turn up in support of one particular poster, often echoing phraseology. That's not exactly plagiarism, but I don't quite know what it actually is.

I have nothing to hide and am not here to defend any member. I do not know Jimmy nor any other member of this forum personally, so here goes:

    Name: Michael A. Taylor
    Address: Hialeah, Florida
    Occupation: Tax Manager
    E-mail: [email protected]

    MBA - ISIM University
Ph.D. Student (completing comps.), Capella University.
    Mentor: Dr. Frank DeCaro.

I believe that the comments regarding Jimmy are totally unnecessary considering that he has apologized for what others may have thought unethical. For how long do you keep reminding someone of their past errors or keep confronting them for similar things other members do but yet are not confronted? I stopped posting for this very reason and the personal attacks that went on between members, mostly against Rich. I have read a majority of the posts but have been reluctant to post until today.
DegreeInfo and John Bear's book, Bears' Guide, 12th Edition, provided very useful information that led me to ISIM University and Capella University. John Bear, Richard Douglas and others provided information that helped me make the correct decisions as to which schools to attend and I am forever grateful. I am from Jamaica and was not familiar with the accreditation system in the U.S. Thanks to DegreeInfo, John Bear, Rich Douglas and others. I am just sorry to see Rich go.

BTW. Should you do a Google search you will find the phrase, "I am a proud graduate of" used quite extensively.

Actually, I am ashamed to say, some of my actions, affiliations, claims, etc., were unethical. Hopefully the impending M.S. from CCHS and the D.Th. from the Free State will help correct all this.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Delta State installs new president

It is no more atypical than the myriad other "off topic" posts in the past, e.g.,

Polls on gender, politics and the like.
    John Bear's periodic riddles.
Humorous comments that many of us have periodically made.
    Etc...

I am really sorry I started this thread. I wish I had the power to close it! I simply posted about a school offering some DL courses with an attempt to show the academic qualifications of the new president. Nearly all subsequent posts have given me a new appreciation for Shakespeare as most are "...full of sound and fury signifying nothing."

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Delta State installs new president

If there are several polls on gender or politics, then they are typical. If Dr. Bear’s riddles are posted periodically, then they too are typical, as are the various other humorous comments that are periodically posted. However, my statement was, “Simply stating that an institution has a new president, with no other relevant information is atypical (of this forum).” If you can point to several other posts that did nothing more than just announce an institution’s new president without any other relevant information or comment, then you may have a point. If you cannot, then my statement is accurate; such a post is atypical.

Moreover, if you read my initial observation, you will see that I did not so much object to this individual post as the cumulative number of inane threads started by a single individual. I don't understand the motivation for your posts, Russell. Are you actually in favor of flooding this forum with irrelevant threads and posts simply to assuage a single individual’s need for attention?

Amen Mike! If you notice it is mostly the same individuals who seem to go into DT's if they go for a day or two without starting a flame. These people are always looking for a confrontation with anyone. I do not know Jimmy either, but if he post something that I am not interested in then I will either not read it, or read it and not respond. It is that simple. As usual a certain few want to decide what is relevant, and interesting, and seem to hang around here looking for every opportunity to antagonize others.

    Regards,

    Scott
