This program sounds like a lot of fun! However, isn't ALL astronomydistance learning"? Like, say, a couple thousand light-years?

I am starting my first term in the James Cook U, Doctor of Astronomy program on Monday (9/15). The world's first totally online doctoral astronomy program!

    Hi,

I am not in AU, so I don't know much about Australian universities. How's JCU in terms of reputations in academic standing anyway?

I am also interested in this online doctoral astronomy program. can you show me the link?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    Michael,

JCU has a strong reputation in research especially in the area of tropical diseases. The astronomy program is brand new and many of the professors including the head of the program migrated from the University of Western Sydney so they could establish an online doctoral program. The program has various awards that include the Doctor of Astronomy which can later be followed up by the Ph.D. The link is: http://www.jcu.edu.au/school/mathphys/astronomy/
