The President continues to rise to the occasion during times of challenges. I did not vote for him but he has continued to impress me. If only he'd like reading. Of course President Carter (whom I like) was a voracious reader and the rest is history.
Rev. Clifton, Some people work well under pressure. President Bush has obviously proved to his nation that he can lead and dispel the doubts that many have of his leadership. He is no longer that gum chewing - beer drinking sidekick that we saw a decade ago during his father's presidency. The man has matured. Since 9/11 he has been consistent in his leadership. So far he has lead the nation with authority and vision. Yet, I sometimes wonder if he has what it takes to turn the economy around and establish a new government in Iraq. The economy and the Iraqui situation are very volatile. I do think, however, Bush will be able to turn it around. I hope so. The last time I vehemently defended a GOP President was Nixon and I was sorely disappointed and let down. Hopefully, Bush will not follow suit. One thing Bush has over Nixon is that he is very sincere in his faith.

On the other hand, I liked Richard Nixon. True....he did lie while in office, but during his presidency Nixon was respected by foreign leaders for his policies and stance on human rights. I think the thing that seperates President Bush from many other politicians is that he has the country's best interest at heart. I think he truly tries to do what he thinks is best for the country. He may not get it right every time, no one does, but he has good intentions. That is why he is such a popular President. Bush is no master at public speaking, but he comes across as a genuine and honorable person. As opposed to Bill Clinton, who cared about himself and only himself. That guy would sell out his own mother if he thought it would benefit him. Sure, Bush plays many of the political games that others play. But at the end of the day he can look back and know that he tried to do the right thing.

I did not see that poll. There are many who think Bus is not that conservative or right-winged. I don't think he is. With Powell and Rice, billions to fight AIDS in Africa, stating Bobby Kennedy was one the best attorneys general in America, etc., doesn't fit the "right-winged" label. Also, many experts in the political field have stated Nixon was more liberal "on policy" than Clinton. Nixon's administration was responsible for the EPA, affirmative action, etc., I believe. I don't remember for sure but I think this is correct. I consider myself a moderate Republican. I wanted McCain to win the GOP nomination and have great admiration for Collins, Chaffe, Snowe, etc. There are many things about Bush I don't like. His stand on the death penalty, his environmental policies, etc. But overall, he's no Reagan, Buchanan, Keyes, Schmitz, Ashbrook, etc. I predict Bush will win reelection.
But you can't trust that poll. The dems claimed they were confused by the ballot and mistakenly thought they were republicans. Greg
