This is standard operating procedure for Gray Davis.

I would say it is an act of desperation by his opponents. If you have to make what someone’s late father may have done in 1939 an issue in a 2003 race you don’t have much going for your own campaign.

This is pretty much SOP in U.S. politics. The Kennedys and Bushes and others have received similar treatment.

And look at the story. Dad was investigated a dozen years ago at Arnie's request. He has aided groups like the Wiesenthal Center so this publicity will likely help more than hurt him.

Since most people will not have read the story, only the headlines, ("Arnold's Father Nazi"), I believe it will be more harmful than helpful.

So the party of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson is investigating somebody's dead relative in a foreign country in order to tar that somebody with the brush of anti-Semitism? Baby, that's cold. What next? Will they "investigate" the goof because if you misspell his name it contains two derogatory racial terms (one in Yiddish, no less)? O mein Papa!

Karl Kraus and Kurt Tucholsky died for your sins.

Well, I read the story and it leads to an inescapable conclusion: Gus was a SA Nazi (why does that sound so familiar?) :D

This is standard operating procedure for both major parties. Neither does this more than the other. They're both pretty pathetic.

Yup. And the party of Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich have done much the same. So what's your point?

If you think I'm going to defend the Republicans, you may need to wait a while. "Not as bad as the Democrats" is as far as I can go toward praising with faint damns.

    Like what?
Nothing close to the "double standard democrats" who ran Trent Lott out of the Senate leadership for trying to say something nice about an old man. While at the same time they have no problem with Klansman Robert Byrd, who they affectionately refer to as "Sheets".

Now that George Pataki has endorsed Arnold, if Arnold wins, NY & CA are gonna secede and reconstitute--yup--the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
