I don't know if any of you have been impacted by the "msbuster" worm virus, but the other day my PC picked up this inconvenience while I was dowloading a brochure from UNISA. I finally resolved the problem by installing the WINDOWS patch which in turn deleted the WORM from my hard drive. The hacker(s) who created and sent this virus need to be shot and hung, and then thrown into a sewage drain. If anyone needs assistance deleting the virus to go: www.windowsupdate.com regards,
Alternatively, people could also try and download the virus removal tool from Symantec at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html, or from McAfee at http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe The Symantec product is quite small (164 KB), as is the McAfee product (681 KB), so if for some reason you are not able to access the Internet, you could borrow a friend's "clean" computer and download either of them to a floppy and then go from there.
virus protection isn't a bad idea either.....I knew about the virus alredy, someone tried to give it to me but McAafee caught it. You should also petition your ISP to scan incoming e-mail for virus's (sp?) (mine does) and, get virus protection. I prefer McAfee Professional, its never put a strain on my computer, and catches everything. Ususally around $19 after rebates. Many people like Norton, IMHO its a resource hog. I understand that you downloaded the file from the interent, many virus programs will let you know that the download is infected as well.
I switched from McAfee to Norton. I'm now wondering if I made a mistake. The Norton anti-virus didn't pick up a thing (and I upgraded my anti-virus several days ago! I also installed SPYBOT but that didn't do much either. I'm going to have to look into this and find a more efficient firewall.
Spybot is a wonderful program, but its not a firewall, its a spyware buster. I use it once a twice a month, and install it on all computers that I sit at. Firewalls.... are a joke. Sorry but they are. If someone wants around it they will get a round it. If you have a router in place (sometimes called a broadband gateway) firewalls are kinda pointless. It is supposedly harder to beat a router than a software firewall. Another thing you can do, (if running IE 6.X) is turn off 3rd party cookies. These helps cut down on the amount of information stolen off of your computer and used by spammers. I need to go do something more usefull around the house. Later. Michael
My 6 year old has a computer, and he is always on the internet. He picked up the Klez virus, and it started sending bogus emails. I installed norton on his computer, and it found the viruses, and removed them all. Now it does its daily update, and and checks for viruses, but never finds any. However, he still gets about 10 to 15 bogus emails a day. I have asked Norton's tech support about it, but they keep telling me that it must be someone else's computer that has the virus that is actually emailing him everyday. Have any of you any experience with this?
Welcome to Michael's house to tech questions. First things first, go to the norton site and find their klez removal tool, I have to admit i don't like nortons, but there virus removal tools are awesome.... If he is getting e-mails with the virus attached them they are being sent to him. If he is getting e-mails returned that he never sent, or getting e-mails saying his computer has a virus, then its the virus spoofing his e-mail addy and sending out the virus from other computers. The klez virus never has the e-mail address of the real sender just the spoofed sender. The only way to really figure it out is to look at the e-mail headers and look for some identifying information. IF you know how to show the headers post them here or send them to me and I can try to figure out what is going on from there. I hope this explains what is happening. Michael
Hi Michael, I will try to do that tomorrow evening. I have done all the Klez removal tools from Norton. I have the live update on my computer, and it scans daily. He is asleep now, but I will try to send you this info. tomorrow. I think last time I looked at this it always seems to change, and never comes from the exact same address. I have thought about just reformatting his hard drive because it is a pain in the rear. Later, Scott

Personally, I've had grief with Zone Alarm, so I switched to Sygate. (in addition to the built in Windows XP "firewall", and Norton Internet Security)

Reformating the hard drive won't cure anything if someone is sending the virus to him. You could change his e-mail address. I would come over personally and take a look, but i have a feeling you aren't in my neck of the woods.
