    Just Curious...

I always wanted to know what the gender ratio of members is here at Degreeinfo, so I created a mini poll just to satisfy my curiosty and for fun!

My informal observations have shown that the great majority of the regular contributors here are male. Female contributors seem to ask a question or two, then fade away. I wish that wasn't the case, but it seems to be.

I don't know why there aren't more females that grace our little community. I always thought we were a generally polite and respectful bunch, at least the rest of you seem to be? I try to be polite and respectful every once in a while myself, just to confuse people.

Oh, so you're saying that women can't take it, huh? Some attitude. :)

I'm beginning to think that the reason the regulars tend to be male--and conservative--is because of the interest in degree mills. While many women (Sen. Collins, I'm looking at you) are on the forefront of dealing with the degree mill problem, the degree mill discussion genre is probably closest to true crime nonfiction--a genre that disproportionately represents male conservatives. Folks with an interest in legitimate, accredited DE can usually come in, ask their question, and be done with it; folks with an interest in the degree mill situation are more likely to stick around, because this is probably the only place on the Internet where real discussion of that problem takes place.

    Cheers,

A person should never hang one of those, even if well "HUNG". :)

FYI, I'm another female perpetually interested in the "true crimes" stories of degree mills and the people who love/hate/create them. People in my "real time" world aren't as interested -- even some of my colleagues aren't. :) That's why I stick around this place.

    Pam,
    looking everywhere for a girl-smilie ;)

Do we really tend to be primarily conservative? I think it tends to be a rather moderate board, with a smattering of right wing wackos (like myself) and left wing wackos to season things a bit.

Has there ever been a poll here to determine where we fall on the political spectrum?

Oh, there have been many. I just voted "Socialist" on two old political polls.
