Was it Albert Einstein who was quoted as saying "why should I memorize anything when I know where to look it up" ?
Maybe a college education will show us how to look up stuff on the internet because everything on the internet is factual !!

I think the actual Einstein quote is, "Why should I know math when my old friend does?" :)

Maybe a college education will show us what we should have learned in grade school.

For sure --- but there is more knowledge to be absorbed here in the future. Since the mind of a fully mature adult is finite (not infinite) if I learn something new then I am going to forget something old. Metaphysics at the sub-atomic level.
