Hi everyone. I've been busy and haven't dropped in lately. I am unable to access the distance learning forum. Is this more criminal activity?
Considering how we can get into the other forums without problems, I'm guessing that it isn't an attack. Perhaps Chip or Nathan or somebody is working on the database, and had to take it down in order to do something.
It may or may not be an attack. Although, as the message states, ”there seems to have been a slight problem with the Distance Learning Discussion Forums database,” the rest of the board is running slower than molasses. Moreover, Chip is pretty good about informing us of planned outages.
DegreeInfo is split into multiple servers. The database server was having problems yesterday that did not appear to be attack-related (It's a fairly heavily used box) and the database engine crashed, leaving some of the tables open when it went down. I had to rebuild the database tables and associated indexes, and whenever that happens, it's not uncommon for a small handful of records to be lost. I'm guessing that the "most users online' information is stored in an admin table that got corrupted. I will try rebuilding the indexes again in the next day or so and see if that changes. Sorry for the problems!
Chip - For all the information and postings (and being free), you guys are superior. Is there information where we can send a "donation", I take it that degreeinfo is not for profit, so I would like that info. (my company matches).
