I was reading in the newspaper about Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers for the basketball challenged) about his recent arrest. My local paper had a funny quote from his lawyer.

"Mr. Bryant is innocent," said Bryant's Lawyer, Pamela Lackey. "I don't know what the facts of the allegations are, but we expect him to be completely exonerated. "

Only in Los Angeles...or maybe not anymore.

Ya know what. Im gonna stop right here. I posted this in the off-topic to get away from **that thread** and I found that lawyer speak funny and shared here, that reminded me of shady L.A. lawyers ala OJ Simpson Lawyers. If you can't behave, then just don't post. Just be civil.

Well, you omitted your routine warning against disagreement with anything you say, which usually consists of an admonition not to flame, to be nice (that is, accept unsubstantiated statements at face value and never question anything), and so on, and so on.

So, like the spoiled little brat that I am, I ran amok.

Me bad. Me no behave. Me civilian. Me try remember words of Robbie Burns:

"the man o' independent mind, he looks and laughs* at a' that."

    *Bwa-ha-ha-ha!

I could see most of the Lakers players doing something like this, but not Kobe. I just don't believe it. It may turn out to be true, but until it does I will not believe it.

Well so far he's doing the right thing, he evidently immediately flew back out to Colorado to get arrested and his wife came with him and he posted $25k bail. Maybe he needs to take some lessons from Jordan about how to cover up his affairs, but then again Jordan didn't do a great job in the end either. I'm not a big Laker's fan (Go BULLS!) but I always liked Kobe.

I am not a Lakers fan either, but feel the same about Kobe. I do not like Shaq., and for some reason never have. I like players that have game like Kobe, TMack, Kidd, Duncan, and KG. I really hope this isn't true. Jordon was the best ever, but I think Kobe is the best now. I just wish he would move to the Spurs, Kings, or Mavericks so I could pull for him.

Many sports stars that everone thought was a great guy turned out to be less than great. Look at Kirby Puckett, who apparently liked to use his wife as a punching bag the whole time that MLB was holding him out as a role model.

I'm not saying that Mr. Bryant is guilty or not, but someone basing their decision on what's in the local sports section isn't such a great idea.

I could maybe see him on the Kings, but he has too much charisma and youth for the Spurs and the Mavs. He might be from Philly, but he seems to have Californicated. It was like watching Jordan in that Wizards uniform it just wasn't right.

What ever happened to Sgt. Joe Friday? These things never happened when he was around!

I think he quit to become a "professional" athlete. This way he could make billions of dollars and not worry about the little things... like being a law abiding citizen.

Reinstate PETE ROSE - with the crimes some professional athletes (and coaches and managers) are commiting today a little gambling is so trivial. Bryant will get off - guilty or not - because he is all the NBA has (as far as a role model that is). Until this new rich HS grad with the Hummer comes along and takes the NBA to new heights or depths. There is just toooo much money being bandied about in professional sports and who knows what outside forces are acting upon certain games and/or individuals to determine the outcome of a contest. You just know there is.

I was listening to the radio this morning and heard how like the Denver Bronco's team have many many (ok I don't know how many) similar complaints in the Colorado area every year but the DA there always decides to not pursue because of "Lack of Evidence" and generally seems disinterested in pursueing these kinds of complaints. But the point was that they moved so swiftly with Kobe, the thinking was the Colorado police really had something on Kobe and it might not be looking too good for him in the future. I'm thinking a Rob Lowe situation. Maybe???

It seems like the NBA is loaded with a criminal element - whether it be owners or players. Players who brandish weapons, are caught with illegal drugs, beat their wives, kill their hired help, sexually assult anything on 2 legs and do not have to answer to the law - there is someone/something on their side - the average citizen would be sitting behind bars. You also see that happening at the college level sadly.

I think overall it's the fame and more importantly the money which all in all, gives them more freedom and power than the average citizen and ultimately that bit of extra power corrupts sometimes or atleast makes it easier to be morally void of such things.

    I agree 100%

What Rose did was off the field, and you can't ever say he didn't give it everything he had on the field. I am a huge baseball fan, and played ball all the way through school. I think Pete is one of the top 5 of all time. He may be the biggest jerk to ever play off the field, but what he did on the field was outstanding. I think every kid always wanted to do a PR slide.

Look at how many times they let Strawberry back in.
