Is it all about the money??

Is athelitics more important to Presidents than education?

VT drops lawsuit when their invitation comes in. Hypocracy?

The only thing more outrageous than this raid by the ACC is the NCAA sitting on its hands and letting it happen. The NCAA represents college presidents, not athletic directors. How could they allow this to happen?

VT got in because Virginia wouldn't vote for it unless VT came with Miami. I guess Syracuse and BC got left out because of geography.

Now the Big East will raid some other conference--probably to get Louisville.

The biggest threat of all is the BCS, which continues to grow. It has already shut out non-BCS schools from major bowl games (and major money), affecting athletic budgets and the abilities of some schools to continue to field some (non-revenue-generating) programs. It will hurt women's programs the most or, if Title IX holds, non-revenue generating men's programs, like wrestling.

It's not about athletics, competition, or academics. It's about money. Jeez, and they complain about for-profit schools!

So the love of money continues to permeate the austere upper echelons of higher learning...

According to the local papers...Boston College was nixed by Duke, after initially being approved by Duke for the merger...Syracuse was the odd man out due to distance and geography. VT football travels very well so it was probably sold on the fact that they could probably sell out at least six ACC stadiums easily.

Now the further question is since the ACC will need 12 teams to compete for the BCS in its present form, who will be next? So far the talk has been pushing for Notre Dame (which the ACC has been doing for awhile apparently) and Kentucky (to appease the basketball deities of the ACC) One thing for sure, if it involves money, anybody could be next.

    Except a degree mill! :D

It has to be about money or else why would Miami or VT not be glad to see one of the others go. If Miami was to leave then VT would have been a shoe in to win the devision every year. Now they all have to compete with FSU, GTU, NCSU, CU, and UNC. Somebody is going to lose! Most likely FSU, and or Miami will have to play UF out of conference which will make matters worse. The championship may not run through the state of FLA. anymore.

IIRC, the 12-team issue isn't about competing in the BCS. Rather, I believe, it relates to getting approval to operate a conference championship game--a very lucrative practice, as the SEC and Big 12 have demonstrated.

Big money also means the possibility of a waiver to the rule, maybe with the promise that the ACC will try to expand in the future. Oh boy, more raids.

I am totally torn about this thing...I have long been a VT fan...ie a Hokie, for that is what a Hokie is...Before my RA education was disrupted I had been accepted to Univ of Miami on scholarship, so I have affinty for both schools. On the days they played each other my family knew to leave me alone as I would become tortured fan for that day....now they will be butting conference heads with NC State where I live right around the corner, and my wife plans do her PhD studies if we stay in this area (DL will not work for her at all) and Duke and UNC where many of my members work....

So come football season...I am doomed!!! Unless I move to another conference?!?!?! Nahhh!!!
