Hey, let’s have some respect. It is, after all, DOCTOR Mike Tyson we’re talking about. The good doctor received a honorary doctorate in the late 1980’s. What percentage of MENSA members have doctorates?
"I don't know what kind of doctor I am. But watching all these beautiful sisters here...I'm debating whether I should be a gynecologist." -- Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, while receiving an honorary degree from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.
Mike Tyson made his millions with his fists. He doesn't have the intellectual capacity to earn any respect in academia. As for his doctorate, there are hundreds of celebrities and business people who have received honorary doctorates for donating money or for promoting a university. If he was awarded a doctorate, it was because the faculty of medicine of the awarding university was the first to witness a walking cadaver.
Did he really say this, or is this one of those urban myths? Tyson got his honorary doctorate in 1989, and it was presumably thought to be rather amusing at the time. The rape for which he was convicted was in 1991.
Regarding the woman he was convicted of raping, Tyson recently said: “She’s a lying, monstrous young lady. I just hate her guts. She puts me in that state where I don’t know. I really wish I did now. ... but now I really do want to rape her and her f***ing mama.” Tyson's Rape Shocker
So how's his rehabilitation going? If he ever gets a parking ticket I am sure he will be hearing this in court.
The first reference I could find to this quote is the July 21, 1989 edition of the Chicago Tribune. The Doctor was awarded his degree in April 1989. Central State trustees, in bestowing the degree on Tyson, cited his support for education and civic causes and his ''personal triumphs over adversity.'' He also told a UPI reporter, ''And may I be permitted to say, you are such a beautiful and incredible-looking woman.'' As it turns out, Central State also awarded Don King a doctorate in 1988.
