My daughter got a degree today.

The diploma says "Bachelor of Science with a Specialization in Chemistry - Industrial Internship Program."

I have 2 degrees from the same school that just state the degree name.

Is this much detail now common?

I think it varies with each school. My A.S. diploma reads "Associate in Science Criminal Justice" while my other diplomas just say "Bachelor of Arts" and "Master of Arts".

My associate degree takes it to excess:

Associate of Applied Technology in Computer Information Systems - Networking Specialist - Cisco

I found it very odd they put the Cisco name on it. If Cisco went belly up, I would have a very odd degree indeed. I think it also gives people the impression that I only learned how to work with Cisco equipment, which isn't the case. We really got a broad range of networking experience.

If a single major has different specializations, most schools will list the specialization chosen. If a major program offers an optional industrial internship, the school might list it to distinguish a graduate of the internship program from graduates that pursued a different option.

I'd guess that schools try to differentiate between programs that they perceive as being significantly different.
