I'm not really a new member.

  1. In order to access the site from work, I had to register again (since I didn't have my pass word). Embarrassing, I know. But just so that everyone knows, Roscoe Barnes III is the same person as Roscoe, the senior member.

Hi Roscoe - Now we'll know when you're goofing off at work. For a modest fee I'll "forget" to tell your boss. ;)

  4. Uh-huh. I'm busted!

    Thanks, Jack.

    I needed that. :)

Since I'm now working as a copywriter, I can always say I'm doing research for a certain concept. But then again, that may not be Christian of me. Oh, well.

I agree, Bill. This could be some UZ student trying to get information for a Th.D. in theology/journalism, or some far fetched idea like that.

    Russell,

Your'e close. I recently asked Prof. Song of UZ if I could do both programs and he said the school would frown on such an attempt. Then he said: "As the Bible says, 'You cannot serve two masters.'"

He said both of my supervisors would be too demanding.

    Maybe he's right.

    Roscoe,

Do you have an idea what your thesis subject will now be?

    Russell,

    Thanks for asking.

I decided to go with the Ph.D. in Communication Science with a focus on Journalism. I will do research on the strained relationship between the national media and small newspapers.

    My working title:

WHEN THE BIG MEDIA COME TO TOWN:

The Impact of the National Media's Reporting Tactics on Community Newspapers during Crisis Reporting in the U.S.

I will investigate such things as: Parachute journalism, checkbook journalism, media frenzies, sensationalism, celebrity journalists and the effect they have on small newspapers.

As for the topic I wanted to do in theology, well, I'll look to another school and propose to do either a doctorate or master's. I certainly don't want the preliminary research to go to waste.

Another option i have is to settled with one doc, like Dr. Bear (among others) and do the theology research (and the rest of my writing) for publication.

My thinking is that if I earn one good doc, I can then build a reputation through publishing.

BTW, have you considered applying to UZ? Since you already have two years(?) of research completed for a PhD, finishing at UZ might be a breeze. Then again, you would be ahead of the crowd no matter where you applied.

    All the best,

    Roscoe
