A final thought for lesson 5, BUSI 512 Managerial Information Systems:

"Jesus and Satan were having an ongoing argument about who was better on his computer. They had been going at it for days, and God was tired of hearing all of the bickering.

Finally, God said "Cool it. I am going to set up a test that will run two hours and I will judge who does the better job."

So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away.

The moused. They did spreadsheets. They wrote reports. They sent faxes. They sent e-mail. They sent e-mail with attachments.

They downloaded. They did some genealogy reports. They made cards. They built a web page.

They did every known job. But ten minutes before their time was up, lightening suddenly flashed accross the sky, thunder rolled, the rain poured, and of course, the electricity went off.

Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld. Jesus just sighed.

The Electricity finally flickered back on, and each of them restarted their computers.

Satan started searching frantically screaming "It's gone! It's gone! I lost everything when the power went out!"

Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the past two hours. Satan observed this and became irate.

"Wait he cheated! How did he do it?"

    God shrugged and said . . . . . . . . .

    "Jesus saves."

As told by Dr. Robert Kilmer, Liberty University

"If the account given in Genesis is really true, ought we not, after all, to thank this serpent? He was the first schoolmaster, the first advocate of learning, the first enemy of ignorance, the first to whisper in human ears the sacred word liberty, the creator of ambition, the author of modesty, of inquiry, of doubt, of investigation, of progress and of civilization."
—Robert G. Ingersoll ["The Gods", 1872]

    Re: Re: Jesus and Satan

There was liberty in the garden. Eat anything...... but one stinking tree! :) We have many more laws in America in this "enlightened" day in which we live.

They had success.... the whole garden was theirs
They had knowledge....they got to name the animals
They had inquiry......they even got to talk to God face to face(that's better than any search engine.)
They had ambition they could freely walk, tend, and work to make Eden a better place.

    The serpent brought.....death
    The serpent brought......sickness and disease
    The serpent brought.....seperation from God
The serpent got them expelled from paradise
    The serpent lied to them(told a half-truth)
The serpent hated them and God as well

Boy, I sure love that serpent! I guess Robert G. Ingersoll had it right! I stand corrected. ;) I hope to find such friends as the serpent who will lead me on and leave me hanging.

This seems a curious way in which to form an argument ("If the account in Genesis is really true THEN........"). If I understand this correctly, Ingersoll wishes to use some details in a Scripture to suggest the fallacy of other details of the Scripture. This is now my territory I think.

If anyone wishes to argue in that manner, that is, using Scripture to deny Scripture, then I will be happy to go along with him/her in that discussion.

So I say "no" on exegetical grounds to Ingersoll's logic that the Genesis account provides any premise from which make the Serpent into the hero of that narrative.

My thesis is that the Genesis account makes God , in and through the One who bruises the serpent's head, the Hero.

    Now you've done it, Gus.

You just opened the door to the revival meeting tent. I suggest you run before the bibles begin hitting your head.

What'd you expect on a thread labeled Jesus and Satan? The study of the macrophages ability of storing forty times the blood level of vitamin C in helping against oxidation, and it's ability to devour foreign antigens using digestive enzymes as the first line of defence in the body's immune response?:D

Well, They're part of the first line of defense. Another part of the first line of defense is that the body puts out antibodies as well including through the sweat ducts, mouth and so forth.
