LA Times front page photo doctored! OMG!

Now in a retraction of spin-setting, The New York Times admits to being factually untrue:

"A front-page article on Tuesday about criticism voiced by American military officers in Iraq over war plans omitted two words from an earlier comment by Lt. Gen. William S. Wallace, commander of V Corps. General Wallace had said (with the omission indicated by uppercasing), 'The enemy we're fighting is A BIT different from the one we war-gamed against.'"

    OOPS! (Some newspaper of record.)
"The misquote of Gen. Wallace was repeated by nearly every newspaper and magazine in the world, although a few did get it right," says powerlineblogger.

Abd then there's this one from Sunday: VP Chaney didn't say it!

"A front-page news analysis article on Sunday about the political perils faced by President Bush over the war with Iraq misattributed a comment about Saddam Hussein's government being 'a house of cards.' While some American officials had used the phrase to predict a shorter conflict and a quick collapse of the Iraqi leadership, Vice President Dick Cheney was not among them." Oddly, the Times does not identify any of these 'American officials,' nor does it explain why the quote was falsely attributed to Cheney. In fact, the Administration, from the President on down, has gone to great lengths to warn the public about the risks and dangers of war with Iraq."

And finally there was the LA Times front-page headlinefrom last week--"Ever Worse and Worse"--whose source describing deteriorating conditions in Baghdad was not even a monitored citizen, but dirctlty from a Saddamite minder herself!

Oh. And lastly, last night on Foxnews Hannity and Colmes, Reagan-Bush I undersecretary for Defense Lawrence Eagleburger (under whom a former history prof of mine for US Foreign Policy once labored--he gotta well-deserved) standing ovation at the coclusion of his course), stated that the NY TIMES Op-Ed people appraoched him recently about doing a piece on the Bush conduct on the war--but it had to be "critical" of them, he was told!

It wasn't even an issue that they wanted editor Howell Raines slant. Eagleburger declined.
(And to think I blanched at sending the NY Times my feces with their news in protest.)

No bias her. Move along, people!

Oscar Winner, Bush basher Michael Moore explains himself 10 days later...

"'Saddam Hussein is a brutal dictator,' he added, 'and I hope he’s removed as soon as possible. But nonviolently.'”

"[N]oneviolently?"On what planet will this occur?

    Correction for first post...

"ndersecretary for Defense Lawrence Eagleburger" in the first Bush Admin, was actually Undersecretary in the Department of State! Sorry.
