For those interested in following the real war, take a look at this link. It's been my opinion since the beginning that most of the journalists and certainly all of the "embedded" journalists are embarrassments to their profession.

For the most part, I agree. I thought Fox News was doing a pretty good job until I saw that idiot Geraldo Rivera drawing a makeshift sandtable describing the position of the 101st Airborne. I was literally screaming at the television, I was so mad.

I think that the media are best at the "grunt" level, and decline in quality as you climb the pyramid.

The embedded reporters are generally great, in my opinion. The formal CENTCOM and Washington briefings are less reliable since the the nuggets of good information have to be extracted from all the obfucating PR and spin. (Spin produced by both the briefers and by their confrontational journalistic questioners.) Finally there's lots of air-time filled with news-anchor inanities and speculative punditry.

Frankly, I'd like to see lots more raw and minimally edited feeds from the field, showing the rest of us what the embedded reporters actually experience out there. And I'd like fewer people telling me what I should conclude about it all.

In the immortal words of Joe Friday: "Just the facts, Maam."
