    Newsweek says:

“'I CAN’T WAIT until tomorrow [when the war starts],' [Mohamed] blurted out, 'Iraqis have waited too long. Saddam Hussein will be finished and people will all come out in the street to celebrate. Just you wait and see.' He laughed and almost started dancing a jig himself, then and there."

    It's not an occupation, it's a liberation.

    Big difference.

Yes....and the first ones in to set up shop throughout Iraq will be Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, Taco Bell and Col. Saunders!

Recent events have shown that it is not as simple as liberating a people. This is a complicated part of the world. The U.S. can expect consistent resistance.

The last thing the other Arab states wants in Iraq is a democracy. Not because they're against freedom, which they tend to be, but because democracy will result in theocracy. The secular governments of Saudi Arabia and others stay in power because they keep the clerics in check. But recent polling by the University of Massachusetts shows that a vast majority of people in these states favor a greater clerical role in government. One needs only to look at Iran to see the results of this.

The U.S. didn't begin talking about "liberating" the people of Iraq until it was clear that they could not prove the threat Iraq supposedly poses to the U.S. (It does not.) While no one denies Saddam's regime is a brutal one, he has proven a threat to his neighbors, not the U.S. But when the attempt to tie him to terrorism failed, the U.S. was left with nothing but its real pretense for war: so-called "liberation." Does anyone really believe the Iraqis will be liberated? They themselves will install theocratic leaders, if given real control over their own country. That is, if they're not engulfed in civil war.

The only thing this operation changes is that there will be a lot of dead Americans that should be alive today. It enhances our security not one iota. In fact, it threatens it.

General Wesley Clark describes the challenge of occupying Iraq HERE .

BTW: I notice we are not "liberating" Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan, North Korea, China, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Libya, Cuba, Vietnam, Burma, Rwanda, or Jordan, just like we never "liberated" any of the Warsaw Pact nations, Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, South Africa, or even Detroit.

That's retired General Wesley Clark. He no longer speaks for the U.S. Military.
