    LaSalle Extension University

LaSalle Extension University and International Correspondence Schools, etc. served a valid function when universities and colleges were all but closed to those of us who didn't know what we were doing educationally in the fifties and sixties. I obtained much of my pre-college education through these and other correspondence schools during a time when it was common for secondary schools to forget about all but the most able of their students. I owe much to correspondence schools, and without their aid I would never have been successful in college after they opened up to the wider public. I bought and signed up for every correspondence course that looked legit while I was in high school in the 1950's and the 1960's. Stenography, religion, typewriting, cabinetmaking, small engine repair, you name it--I took it from them. It was all with which I had to work. I now have several regionally accredited degrees as well as all of those certificates. Audel books, used book stores, etc. were all used by me. I remind you that the universities and colleges were very late comers when it comes to readily available education. They were always looking for an easy way to weed out the "losers". And the only reason that they opened their doors in 1965 was that the Government didn't know what to do with those of us who were returning from Vietnam. Anyway, if "the best and the brightest" come from the Ivy League schools, then they need to look at what they're producing--because it's not very good stuff.
