I just completed some travel and flew the skies with US Airways. Of course one of the first things I look for is to see which schools are advertising. In the March 2003 issue of Attache, the US Airways mag, there was not one unaccredited degree granting institution listed including the always present Cal Coast. Overall, I was surprised and pleased. Is someone at Attache screening schools as I doubt the "less than wonderfuls" such as Madison would discontinue their recruitment efforts. The absence of Cal Coast raised an eyebrow. An observation, John
I do the same thing John, not only in inflight mags, but in magazines I read, newspapers, etc. Is this symptomatic of some obsessive-compulsive disorder? Perhaps ODMD: Obsessive Degree Mill Disorder? Seriously, if one completes the online request for information for Cal Coast, the question is asked how one became acquainted with CCU--and seventeen (17) inflight mags are listed. CCU may have more frequent flyer miles than any other CA state-approved school.
Two thoughts: The (former) Louisiana schools were among the larger in flight advertisers. With a 3 or 4 month lead time, perhaps, knowing they were about to be booted out of Louisiana, they were waiting to see where they were going to land. But Cal Coast -- that's surprising. Perhaps the bankruptcy situation of USAirways scared away some advertisers. The last time I looked in those seat pocket gift catalogs, and noted that there were a number of items which, if you ordered them on the in-flight phone, would be waiting for you at the gate when you landed . . . the thought did occur that that would be a fine marketing move for some of those school advertisers. Take the application over the phone, assess the life experience credits while-u-wait, and have the diploma printed and ready for a little ceremony at the gate.
And with all the recent delays in air travel (e.g., extra security checks, etc.), this would allow the schools a little extra time to: 1) Assess the life experience credits. 2) Have the band ready to play for the ceremony. 3) Secure the graduation speaker.
Re: Re: Those Inflight Mags Again Same here. Any magazine today I pick up I first skim the ads for schools before reading the articles. Strange. SHould we be worried about ODMD? John
I hope Wake Forest isn't on some type of SACS probation and about to lose its accreditation, resulting in advertising in inflight mags. My wife is from the town of Wake Forest, where the university has its roots.
