Re: Re: Baptist College of America I have not read the web site but the KJV only folks are obsessed with the KJV to the point of idolatry. It is almost ungodly as they express venom for the other versions and folks not KJV only. Their reasons are not defendable by any form of logic. I can imagine that Christ must be both amused and disappointed at this. PS I am not talking about folks who just like the KJV or prefer it. North
North, Vl. Russell: You're right. Sadly, there's plenty of only-ism to go around. In my earlier experience with one of the l*****l Lutheran synods, there was a strong sense of NIV-only-ism--and I have encountered that subsequently as well. A few go ape over "Beck's Bible" and spew venom at all others. Many liberals appear to believe that only the NRSV is really scholarly. Preferences and endorsements are fine, but the net result of this sort of stupidity is to reduce the extent and intelligence of Bible reading among so-called "laity". Besides, idolatry is idolatry and God ain't laughing.
What an amazing college: faculty consisting of *books* by great Christians, a two year grad program with the Dmin gotten the first year and the Phd acquired the second year( doctor, doctor all over the place), exegesis with no study of the languages, all based on an inerrant text which had no witnesses before the tenth century and whose editor got some of his text by translating from the Vulgate or making up a word on his own and even which has readings no where else witnessed in the Greek MSS. Amazing. One wonders if these grads also humble accredited PhDs by their vast learning as do the Bethany bunch. Elisha got power by the mantle and these by the mockery! Who says miracles have ceased? Don't miracles exist yet today in the foolishness of shabby 'Christian' higher 'ed' and in the vanity of those who lust for the recognition but lack the fortitude to earn it? Or are these false miracles? Of course have a school , even an unaccredited school, go to them, but puleeeze don't hand out degrees and puleeze don't represent yourself as Dr ,Dr after two years of book reading.
==== Yes, that's my target date, the summer of '05. Today at dinner my wife's mother asked if I thought the tension of the Middle East signals the immediacy of the second coming. I assured her that it does not as I have to finish my dissertation first! "Amen. Nai erchou kurie Iesou", The Revelation , chapter 22
I am concerned for you Bill, if the apocolypse comes. There just might be you with 143,999 Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on your door. Then you would really have to question your choices. Are we really sure that Revelations should have made the cut? At the big MacDonalds in the sky they must have asked would you like some fire to go with your brimstone?
Wow Bill How does one recover one's witnessing strategy after that??? I guess you just put down the gun, pull out a plate full of cookies and say, "hey-come on in!!!!"
