How, exactly, does the holder of a non-Bar JD "begin a new career in law"?

Why, in California, of course! (And in a tiny number of other states, in special situations.)

Of all of the online law schools in the world, Concord has my vote for "Most likely to succeed." If the ABA ever approves a DL law school, my money would be on Concord as the first. I think Concord has the where-with-all to make it possible (even though it's not very likely to happen).

I know some folks whose employer has, or is currently, paying for them to go to law school. These people will never need to pass the bar for their jobs (their in Federal law enforcement jobs). For them, a reputable and accredited online law school would be great.

WOAH! I didn't say a non ABA JD, I said a non BAR JD. The graduate of the non Bar JD program at Concord can't take the Bar exam in ANY state, at least not on the strength of the degree alone!

I still maintain in my crabby infantile way that someone claiming to hold a JD is representing himself as having completed the necessary training to commence the general practice of law in at least one state. The JD is a professional degree, after all.

The holder of a non Bar JD is NOT prepared to do any such thing. A non Bar JD is a contradiction in terms and the holder is claiming to be something that he is not.

The Concord Bar qualifying degree strikes me as being a much more legitimate degree, even if the holder never takes the California Bar. The point is, he COULD. He IS qualified to enter the profession and that's what the initials "JD" mean.

Oops! You were speaking specifically about Concord's JDSM program, not their regular JD program. I'm with ya' now.

Sorry to nitpick, but I don't think it's a JDSM. SM is an abbreviation for Service Mark, and applies to the entire "Executive JD" moniker -- i.e. basically Concord is claiming a trademark for the degree "Executive JD."

Sort of undermines my confidence in any IP courses they may offer. Some other entity was using that mark until sometime in 2001. At that point it was abandoned but it doesn't appear as if it's been registered by any other party (e.g. Kaplan).
