Why is there only a 10 minute period for one to edit a post? Could this be extended, or is there a particular reason it is only 10 minutes?

    Thanks,

I believe the argument is that they don't want people changing the content of their posts especially after other people have already responded. In some other forums, I've seen this done as a silly game to try and bother other posters.

It happened once to me here--"sneak" editing of an original post to make a reply into a witless nonsequitur.

The real problem is different: some people ought to just delete their posts rather than editing them. Carving netsuke out of turds may be clever, but the material is irredeemable and the result still stinks.

    Bill Huffman nailed it. We (the admittedly imperfect moderators) decided awhile ago that 10 minutes was more than enough time to either;

    1) Correct any spelling/grammar errors

    2) Get over a fit of rage, and adjust any posting accordingly

If you think about it, there can be no other legitimate reason to alter a post, and 10 minutes is more than enough time to do either.

    Thanks for the explanation, Bruce.

And now (asking for third), is it possible to find out why the whole of Norfolk Island is blocked from reading and posting here?

There is (for instance) a really interesting action by the Norfolk Parliament that John Walsh of Brannagh would like to post here, but he is denied access.

    Thank you.

Another week has passed, and I'm asking for the fourth time, if is it possible to find out why the whole of Norfolk Island is blocked from reading and posting here?

There is (for instance) a really interesting recent action by the Norfolk Parliament that John Walsh of Brannagh would like to post information on here, but he is denied access.
    Thank you.

Silly question, but is he registered and logged on?

Another silly question, but have you e-mailed directly to the adminstrators. I tried a few weeks back, and never received any response, but thought that might be a way to get help.

Dennis: Silly question, but is he registered and logged on?

John: He keeps trying. His ISP is blocked. This seems to stem from a couple of pro-Greenwich postings many months ago from what was believed to be John Walsh's computer. Walsh denied the posts, and indeed denied ever having posted anything here, even once. He was apparently not believed, and the ISP was blocked.

Then it turned out that the entire population of Norfolk Island (where he lives and works) has the same ISP number -- all 1,000+ of them.

Greenwich is (was?) probably the largest non-tourist-industry private sector employer on Norfolk. It is very well known there. It is entirely possible that one of the other 999+ Norfolkians, not Walsh, posted here.

But the ISP, thus the entire island, remains blocked. Two of the moderators here replied to me saying that they don't know why.

John: Doesn't seem silly to me.Yes, I've asked a few times over the months. I'll just send a copy of this entire posting to Chip and Nathan in a few minutes, and we'll see what (if anything) happens.

The entire sovereign nation of Norfolk Island has been banned from the forum?

Who needs NATO or the UN, the DegreeInfo subculture is indeed becoming a force to be reckoned with. ;)
