    Another gratuitous schtick

What is it with you and the phrase "exploding in someone's face'?
Maybe it's analagous to asking if 'anyone wants to fuck'?

Good luck and may god be with you,
    Tony

Now that's funny. I didn't see any symbolic meaning to its use when I wrote it. Now that you bring it up, however, I'd say that you've been reading too much porn. :D

    Steve:

    You are an idiot.

No matter how thick a layer of skin we have some things are an offense to the heart and your post was cruel. Where are the moderators??????

I pray to God that you are spared the pain those families are in.

Steve's comment would be considered in most excellent taste in the Navajo culture, at least as I understood what was explained to me by my Cultural Anthropology professor many years ago. I think that while not as acceptable in our culture, there's still a plenty of humor that is based in pain and suffering.

For example, I was watching Southpark the other day and they got to a part where the guy said, "Okay we'll break up into two teams. Team A will be me, Cartman, Joe, Bob, Bill. We'll stay inside and flip the switch. Team B will be Kenny. Team B will go out in the blizzard and fix the transformer."

For those of you that are unfamilar with Southpark, Kenny dies in almost every episode of Southpark. Anyway, I laughed so hard that I literally passed out.

Call it whatever you like, but getting enjoyment out of another person's pain is not something that I respect.

Cruelty is cruelty. You can serve shit on a china plate, but it still stinks.

  7. The true victim in things like this . . .

. . . is the great American philosopher, George Carlin, who had a special scheduled for airing on HBO in November 2001 titled I Kinda Like It When a Lot of People Die. The title was based on his then-concert tour, which expanded on hi previous work titled Complaints and Grievances and included such gems as, "I like it when a lot of people die, and on the other hand I always wonder how many unused frequent-flyer miles they had."

Of course, then came 9/11 (which I found just as entertaining as the Space Shuttle's break-up), and Carlin had to change the title.

Yes, dear friends, it is at times like this that we should think of poor George, and how he had to clean up his act in the face of an American tragedy. That is the biggest tragedy of all.

But, as George Bernard Shaw said, "Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."

So I admit it . . . When that second plane hit the World Trade Tower, I was one of many whose reaction was, "Wow... Cool!!!" But thats only because I missed seeing the first plane hit. And then I humbly prayed to the Almighty, thanking Him that I was not in NYC or Canada at the time - because I would not have wanted to be stuck in either place when they closed the tunnels, bridges, and borders. I then proceeded to lay back in bed and enjoy the third plane hitting the Pentagon . . .

I can look forward to a delghtful little tete-a-tete in the form of a war with Iraq . . . because I'm not too old to be drafted should military conscription come back into vogue. Past that point, I don't give a shit - I plan to laugh at the right-wingers, left-wingers, and poor victims equally.

To me, the ultimate absurdity of the past week has been watching local news stations interview the "person on the street," every one of whom had some inane suggestion on how the shuttle break-up could be prevented. They are no more expert than some of the wazoos on this board that have pontificated their solutions - as Kevin Costner said in American Flyers, "Sounds like bull shinto to me."

And all this ultimately means is that I have a waped sense of humor. Get over it, kiddies. :D

Nah, reading degreeinfo is quite enough for me.
This is obviously what you wanted to make clear to everyone. I certainly agree.
Sure, it was a little annoying. You aren't going to try and portray this approach to journalism as unusual, are you? Although I sometimes dream Marx said 'sociology is the opium of the masses' there is something to be said for living in a society and the consequences of its norms.
Well Steve, many people use humor to let off steam, to enshroud reality, and to escape tragedy, among other things. There is nothing wrong with that.

These are written words on a forum, people. We are disallowed observation of much of what makes up communication. I seriously doubt anyone is close to happy about this recent tragedy, although many responses (including this one) surely act as a diversion.

    Take care,
    Tony

I find Steve Levicoff's humor disgusting. He is, I take it, an intelligent individual and accomplished, but the attitude of condescension he portrays suggests far less.

    Levicoff's brilliant comments

    Levicoff:

Your comments about both the Columbia tragedy and the Twin Towers transcend mere idiocy; they are wicked and evil. As someone who purportedly taught "religion", one would think that you would have gleaned SOMETHING from your studies. (unless of course you personally subcribe to witchcraft/satanism, which, judging by your comments, you apparently do) It's obvious from the fact that nearly all of your posted comments fall under the categories of either cruel, crude, caustic, belligerant and/or obnoxious, that the "religion" that you 'taught' had to have been of the most anemic variety.

You are given far too much credit on this forum, "Dr" Levicoff. You deserve to be treated for the loud-mouthed, obnoxious, moronic boor that you are. Do everyone a favor and crawl back into your cab and slither on down the highway from whence you came. :D

I didn't mean to imply that good ol' Steve Martin was really into cruelty as a form of humor. This was a quote that he said leading into a couple of very funny stand-up comedy bits. The most memorable for me was his "Cruel Shoes" bit.

The point of the quote is that like all good humor, there needs to be at least a sliver of truth in it. Take Jay Leno's picking on our political leaders and celebrities each evening. Some of those jokes can be quite cruel but most people accept them as humorous. On the other hand I accept the fact I live in this culture rather than the Navajo culture.

I think most people for the most part behave similarly in these kinds of forums as they are in person. It makes me wonder, though, if anti-social, "if-you-don't-like-it-screw-you" behavior that one can get away with in this two-dimensional bulletin board wouldn't leave one very alone in the rest of his/her life. And if one isn't that way in his/her life, why be that way here? In either case, it is a sign of severe weakness, and pitiful. :(

    Steve's last post

And what does being snookered by MIGS have to do with his feelings regarding the blatant callousness of your original post?

    You are still an idiot.

And yes, this comes from someone who thought about going to Rushmore!!!!

Yep. But no harm, no foul. And a few lessons learned. Perhaps you could learn a few yourself. They're offered to you evertime you act this way.

When a poster publicizes (in this or other arenas) the school from which he/she graduated, the posts reflect for good or ill upon the school. When a poster is a strongly partisan advocate for a given type of accreditation, academic program structure, or whatever, the character of all that person's posts will add to or take away from the credibility of that particular advocacy.

Levicoff reminds me of a person who got beat up a lot in school. Trust me, he could not get away with most of the crap I have seen him write on this forum in real life. At least.....not where I am from.

    Hey, wake up America.

You guys REALLY know how to miss the point.

It is not making a joke out of wars and disasters that Steve enjoys - it's watching you lot tie yourself in knots over it.

Steve Levicoff is not the devil incarnate - he is just a bloke who likes to throw out a line and reel the fish in.

And all the usual suspects oblige by taking the bait: hook, line and sinker.

But keep feeding the troll: quite entertaining from my desktop.

    Very kind regards

Pete - Have you thought that many of us are teaming together, and that may be a way to feel better about what happened. Similarly like what happened 9/11 - just a group that has the same opinion and saying so.

Since one is a deviant, sick minded, freak (there I feel better) should not make us stop making fun of him. I am enjoying my desktop as well, especailly comments like from DCross - a can of whoop ass sounds good!!!
