Why do we have SUVs?? Government regulation of fuel economy. Requiring cars to be fuel efficient forced people with the need or desire for larger vehicles to purchase vans, SUVs, or trucks, probably decreasing overall fuel economy. That government regulation can work bass ackwards is nothing new. Increases in taxes have lead to decreases in collections and vice-vera.
