Does anybody have experience in obtaining FDA approval for importing food related items from outside the USA ?
I am curious to know the process.

In another life, I worked in the meat industry. American inspectors used to visit our packing plants to inspect procedures and sanitation. If it involves meat in any way, forget it.

Don't invest you life savings in the first shipment because if contamination from rodent feces, insects, etc is found, you lose.

Unfortunately importing anything less than a container is uneconomical, unless you are talking personal use.

Thank you very much. I would not make a mistake of investing a lot at once.

Well, I've just finished posting comments about Maxine Asher and Bob Jones University over at

    http://www.fas.usda.gov/import.html

but they seem, for some reason, to have a bunch of information on food and grain import rules as well.
