It's worse for Mexico: "SINCE September 11th, 2001, Latin Americans have grown wearily used to their giant northern neighbour looking east instead of south. Nowhere is this more true, or more resented, than in Mexico. Only two years ago Vicente Fox had high hopes that his personal rapport with George Bush would help to turn the North American Free-Trade Agreement (NAFTA) into a broader scheme to integrate their two countries. Those hopes have been well and truly dashed....." http://www.economist.com/world/la/displayStory.cfm?story_id=1547339 --Orson
But entrepreneurism lives. A charming article in today's paper on the fact that there are delays of one to three hours at the US/Mexican border near San Diego for people driving or walking . . . except in the special lane open for people to walk their bicycles through, since very few people bicycle to or from Mexico. And so there is now a bicycle rental business right at the border, from you can rent a junk bike for five minutes for $5, and turn it in as soon as you cross. More than 300 bikes are in steady use. Wonder how long before the authorities figure out a way to make this illegal.
Mexico! British Columbia's largest agricultural export is a certain herb. It's illegal but its not as if anyone actually goes to jail for growing it. Drives the DEA nuts. Why can't you guys stop the demand and quit making criminals out of hard working Canadians?
A nice way to import narcotics into the U.S.....in the handlebars or under the seat. I'm sure it won't take long for someone to catch on.
