As per the Salem, Oregon, Statesman Journal newspaper of Jan 24, the British government is to allow colleges in England and Wales to increase tuition from $1750 to $4800 annually. Universities in Scotland are said not to be affected. One purpose of this increase is said to be to make these universities "more competitive with US Ivy League colleges."
