I am hoping that you guys can AGAIN help me with something. I am in the process of negotiating with a community college, but I am confused. How do I know at what step I should be hired in? Is it years of experience, or is there some type of formula? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Darren
If an offer has been made, you should have a booklet from HR of what the system is. If they don't have one, you should ask for the contact information of the Union Rep. The one's here have a matrix, steps and levels. Levels are based on degrees and classes, while the steps are on years of experience. Then there is the evaluation of HR who gives the credit for working..... oh what fun!! Good Luck.
Unfortunately for you, it can and does vary by state, county, community college district, and single-campus college. Best bet would be to contact HR and the union (as described above and in that order). Tom Nixon
