For those who have not heard or read the title, it seems back in the 60's Diploma Mills where thriving even then.

In the newly released book and movie, this true to life story line about a 16 year old kid (con & scam artist) with a high school education makes his own Harvard Doctors MD diploma (circa 1997), fakes it real good, then goes onto passing the Louisiana Bar exam with only two weeks of study?

Outside of this kids fame to fortune (scammed $5 million) before the age of 19, it pretty much says that with some brains, faking it with an unearned degree is always possible.

BTW, the kid is Frank W. Abagnale Jr. that claims to have an IQ of 140 who gives no interviews and now makes millions helping the FBI and corporations from stopping others from doing what he mastered.

A true to life entrepreneur, not a Ph.D, just smart.

    Thanks John,

You just gave me a reason to go and see the movie. I think our buddy Russell would be proud of you :)

John Bear: As I mention in Bears' Guide, according to Barbara Tuchman ("A Distant Mirror: the Calamitous 14th Century,"), diploma mills were thriving in Britain 700 years ago. But the first well-documented US one didn't appear until the 1830's.
