Could you give us a little update on your studies? Thanks.

Actually, as of two weeks ago, I withdrew from PUCHE's program. Admitted in September 2000 I spent the last two years conducting the literature review, gathering research data, etc. The first six months were spent developing and writing the research proposal, which was accepted by GST, then by PUCHE. When I submitted the first chapter the promoters began suggesting that I take a totally different approach than what had been approved in the research proposal--one which I was unwilling to follow. After several months of negotiation I grew weary of the process. The positive side is that I do have the research data, folder upon folder of documentation, which can easily be utilized in another program, so all is not lost.

I guess that's one of the benefits of a research program--once you've formulated an in-depth proposal, it's usually possible to reuse it at another institution with only minor changes.

Best of luck to you. Any specific new programs in mind? (Email me if you'd prefer.)

    Cheers,

Russell, that you do not seem bitter about your experience is a testament to your faith. Best wishes to you in your search.

Vladika Russell: Sorry to hear of the end of your work at PUCHO. I am sure you will be able to put the material to good use later on. It is not easy to have one's work overturned by massive objections, theoretically gainsayable but practically insuperable. I fought several years at Torquemada and lost, so I have some idea of your struggle.

If you deal with another SA university, please get everything nailed down in grotesque detail in advance before sending any money. Long negotiations taught me that (not without some cash outlay, too--not a waste, because more money can be made, while time cannot be reclaimed).

I would offer you a nice (fairly clean) glass of tuica, but my understanding is that this is against the tenets of your church. So the Carpathian peasant will toast your future success on his own, knowing that "all things work together for the good of those who love Him."
    Eis polla eti, despota!
