I just saw a Barrington University mouse pad in my friends office and asked him about the university. His reply "Its a good affordable university" and also heard that they had a convocation here in Miami on Nov 1st and received his MBA !!! I greeted just him as he was very happy . I did not wanted to tell him that he has got a MILL MBA. There are a lot of people us who do not have an idea of accreditation.
I had a similar experience at a client's office just the other day. People were talking about all of the PhD holders at the company -- something like 50%. Some people in the room were telling stories about their experiences earning a PhD. One person spoke up to complain about how the company refused to help pay for his PhD program. He thought it was a silly company policy that restricted tuition reimbursement to regionally accredited degree programs. As it turned out, he "graduated" from LaSalle (in LA, not PA). No wonder his company wouldn't pay for his tuition! I think you're correct that far too many people have no understanding of the accreditation system in America.
