    But look at this:

"Please also note that UT Arlington, UT El Paso and UT San Antonio use the word "online" on the diplomas conferred via the MBAO program."

    Who makes these decisions??????

The article says it is one of the most popular programs at UTEP. With the large amount of DL programs today is it really still an issue if the school has it say online on the diploma --
    it may be a plus.

    Inputs again

Putting the medium by which a degree is studied and from which inputs it is awarded reflects the campus biases of faculty who consider inputs in education more important than outputs.

These, of course, reflect the interests of the inputs (or producers) rather than of consumers who are concerned with outputs. Education is about learning, performance is measured by outputs. What mode of inputs is used to produce the outputs is non-relevant.

  4. My personal view is that the more information that can be provided to would-be employers (or admissions officers) the better. So I would really like to see a breakdown of how a degree was earned -- i.e. percentage by examination, percentage by dissertation, percentage by "class participation" (heh), percentage by take-home assignments, etc.

I'll have to keep dreaming (until President Gore appoints me Higher Education Dictator in a few years).

I don't know which thought is scarier....President Gore or Dictator Potgieter. :D

Much better to have an examination only route for Bachelor degrees (existing knowledge), all thesis or all examination for Masters (original applications of existing knowledge) and all thesis for PhDs (original contribution to knowledge) which they can have a taught Masters as a separate entry qualification.

All modes that soften the measurement of standards should be eliminated: 'class performance', 'attendance' [!!], home (aka downloaded, borrowed, plagiarised) assignments, open book, choice of questions, averaging of marks, and positive discrimination, etc.

And once appointed I can see a new taxes being raised to support this office. Maybe the new "diploma mill tax" for any degrees earned solely by payment of fees.

That query should be directed to the person(s) running the program. If it were not an issue, the little "caveat" would never have been placed on the web site. Clearly, someone at the institution believes it is still an issue.
