University of Cape Town lecturer Charles Pape is James Kilgore of Symbionese Liberation Army: Applause greets Kilgore as he enters court. Kilgore and wife: Peas in a pod.
A domestic terrorist and accused murderer is applauded when he enters the courtroom. We live in very sad times. Bruce
Re: Re: University of Cape Town lecturer Agreed. There'll be problems with the extradition if he will face the death penalty: SA won't send Kilgore to the gas chamber. Sickeningly, this article refers to him as an "American radical." How about "murderer"?
Re: Re: Re: University of Cape Town lecturer The United States Government (Federal) should request his extradition for Unlawful Flight, and then swear up & down that they won't seek the death penalty. Once he's in custody, there is nothing stopping the Feds from declining jurisdiction and transferring him to state custody, where he will face the death penalty. Tough luck for him. Bruce
Another article stated he earned a Ph.D. from an Australian University. I wonder if he had to start his postsecondary education anew under his new identity?
Re: Re: University of Cape Town lecturer We have been for some time. I guess that his friends know and like him, but Myrna Opdahl is just a name to them. So she's emotionally unengaging and is therefore nobody. Their friend on the other hand needs their support. Some people consider that kind of loyalty to be humane and honorable.
I was wondering that myself. If Kilgore enrolled in a doctoral program under the name 'Pape' by using foreign academic records for somebody named 'Kilgore', that would have raised immediate questions. I have trouble imagining it happening. He probably did have to redo his undergraduate degree. If he did, he would have needed a program that wouldn't ask him for his secondary school records, which would be under the name 'Kilgore' too. That suggests a program that offers open-admissions to adults without requiring any documentation from them, and that in turn suggests the sort of things that we often discuss here on Degreeinfo. Accelerated, no-questions-asked DL degrees might be a great means to help fugitives fill out a new false identity.
I'd say "airplane" the b*stard on the way back. Never thought about accelerated DL as an identity camouflage.
Deakin. Presumably at a distance, since he was apparently in Zimbabwe from 1982-1991, and South Africa from 1992-2002. The PhD was reportedly earned in 1992, so perhaps he did a brief residency in Australia.
There has been a suggestion that he stole a real Pape's identity, complete with credentials. (This is from another board -- no more reliable than this one!)
