I am not suggesting this for Christ's sake, just a question.

If more people did this, Diploma Mills would go out of business. You can't stop the academically dishonest person anyway so at LEAST go after those that cheat them.

I don't understand why someone who just NEEDS to see that
diploma on the wall , and really wants to do some coursework doesn't just look at the Rushmore or other mill website, design the program, buy the books, do the reading and call some diploma replacement center and order a $75 sheepskin.

Why pay money to a Rushmore type of school to get an academically worthless DBA or other degree instead of this?

Few employers will give you credit anyway, no school will give you credit and as long as you don't lie and use it to land a job who cares?

I would do this rather than pay all that money to a mill that can't verify anything anyway.

By the way, I hired someone a couple of years back who flat out told me that he had a " self taught MBA ". Maybe this is what he meant. He turned out to be pretty good, I respected him because he told me that, his BA was from a legit school and he had good experience.

We don't really know this to be true. In fact, there is a great deal of anecdotal evidence to the contrary. After all, diploma mills and bad schools have been selling their wares to thousands (millions?) of customers. More to come....

    Hello Richard:

Yeah, maybe your right. Some employers CAN be pretty gullible. I would be terrified to falsely claim something and then have to worry about it the rest of my life.

A very good question. The only thing I can think is that it lets people rationalize in their minds that they actually "earned" a college degree, or that it provides a built-in excuse if you get caught. It would be impossible to plead ignorance about your own self-printed diploma.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It more easily allows the infamous state of deep denial.

I've actually had a person claiming a fraudulent degree that said it wasn't their problem, it was the degree mill's problem.
