The Democratic candidate for California's 21st Congressional District, David G. LaPere, lists a University of Wexford degree in his bio.

    Wow!

A Google search has produced well over a dozen University of Weford grads, with degrees in just about everything imaginable (inlcuding doctorates in guitar composition and Islamic studies). Pretty good, since the institution's website list no faculty or descriptions of programs. Apparently Wexford graduates all of its students with honors.

My favorites, though, are Rev. Sherrie Baron, DRS, who claims a masters in psychotherapy (with honors, of course) from UW. And Rev. Janet L Kuypers, PhD, who, not content with here prestigious UW doctorate, enhanced it three years later with an ordination as "Reverend through the Universal Life Church"

Does anyone know anything about this institution?

Anyone can be ordained by the Uneversal Life Church (even my dog). Their website begins by saying, "YOU can be a legally ordained minister just 5 minutes from now. Yes, we offer free online ordination and it takes only 3 minutes." (I'm not sure if it's really 3 minutes or 5; I didn't become ordained.)

    The website is: http://www.ulc.org

  5. I like their slogan: "20 million ministers since 1959."

What really impressed me was the opportunity to be a Power Monk

    Here is a quote:
"I told you this would not be a diploma mill, pay and get a beautiful suitable for framing degree or certificate. This is hard work. I have not yet decided whether to grant degree status or diploma, by the time you complete the course of study and prana breathing lessons, ego certificates will not mean anything to you.

You, the individual, the ULC POWER MONK are the walking and talking success and you will carry yourself so and people will notice."

I always wanted to be THE walking and talking success...

I know--that is why I said that she "enhanced" her Wexford degree with Universal Life Ordination. Didn't they used to sell honorary divinity degrees as well?

Does the ULC categorize the 20 million? For example:

    15 Million Human Beings
    3 Million Dogs
    1 Million Cats
    650,000 Aliens
    100,000 Reincarnated Cows
    249,999 Non-Entities
    1 Degree Mill Operator

    ;)

Only one degree mill operator? More than anyone else, those fine "educational entrepreneurs" would see the value to their personal resumes and self esteem to add the prestigious title of "Universal Life Minister" (ULM?) to their long list of credentials.

B.A. University of Wexford (cum laughable)
M.A. University of San Mortiz (summa heretica)
Ph.D. University of Palmers Green (magna carta)
    (lengua en la mejilla)

California's 21'st congressional district includes part of Fresno, I believe. Who knows, this guy could end up as Tom Nixon's congressman.

You have to applaud it in one way:

We all know that the politicians we elect are corrupt. But few politicians have the balls (or perhaps the stupidity) to openly use their lack of ethics as a qualification for office!

I sent him an e-mail asking about it. If he replies, I'll post it here.

  13. According to CNN, LaPere lost, with only 27% of the votes.

The online voter information lists the source of his AA in Communications/Broadcasting as "IBA" -- any guesses as to the full name?

"IBA" probably stands for "I Bought an Associate's."
