While watching the World Series last night, I noticed a banner advertising Argosy University. It was located in the Giant's bullpen, behind the pitchers warming up. The Angel's ballpark is located in Orange County. Where was CCU?

    You didn't see it, Rich?

Written with a permanent marker on the bib of the pitcher's hat were those three convroversial letters--C C U.

    I'm surprised you didn't notice.

Come to think of it, almost every time I've visited Fenway Park, I've noticed some sort of advertising for schools, mostly the continuing ed branches of local colleges.

I will say that baseball fans are probably a good target audience. I can't picture the no-shirt, painted-face, beer-soaked football crowd (of which I'm one once in awhile) being too interested in DL.

I thought I'd read that some, perhaps most of the ballpark ads we see on TV are in fact virtual ads inserted by Fox, either to promote their own shows, or to sell to national advertisers.

When I went to PacBell park last month, there was a huge Enron ad just to the left of the scoreboard. PacBell claimed they had an unbreakable contract. But somehow they figured out how to get out of it, and the Enron ad came down just before the series opened.

Incidentally, the head of a Boston-area distance learning program once told me that their best advertising dollars were spent buying posters on suburban commuter train stations.

This is the first year Argosy has been a sponsor. They gave away a full scholarship on fan appreciation day. (No kidding.)

From an Angel season ticket holder who’s glad we didn’t have to face Dr. Bear’s Oakland A’s in the post-season.

That would explain why the subway & train stations in Boston are plastered with ads from various schools. No mills or less-than-wonderfuls.......yet.

John Bear: Well actually "my" team (I've been managing them for a year in a computer baseball league) is the 1905 NY Giants. Christy Mathewson. Iron Man McGinnity. 'Dummy' Taylor. John McGraw. We just beat the 1947 Dodgers 4 out of 7, even if Jackie Robinson did steal home three times.
