Fox cable news announced that Chief Moose had a PhD in Urban Studies and Criminology. Of course one's sketpical side arises as so often PhD's in non academic career fields turn out to have degree mill PhD's or from state approved schools. However, Moose's PhD is from Portland State University.
Enclosed is an article from Time Magazine. He is to be commended for not seeking the fast easy route to a PhD. Hopefully his intellect will help solve the cowardly sniper attacks.

Certainly Moose is one of the most impressive talking heads/politicians to show up on national TV in an awfully long time. His profound seriousness is a real inspiration in a horrible set of circumstances.

    Chief Doctor Moose. That's nice.

Sure beats Chief Doctor Swift Eagle.*

I gather (from my daughters there) that Moose was regarded by the media as "controversial" when chief in Portland largely because he did not kowtow to the media.

    _____________
    * That would be Chief Doctor Swift Eagle of the Cherokee Western Federation Church and Tribe, operating International Theological University from a PO box in California but with no state approval.

Wonder how the name Moose originated?

Dr. Moose's dissertation citation can be seen here.

It also seems that they've captured the sniper and his accomplice. Good work by all involved.

It seems the link I supplied won't work. The citation is:

They had to come up with a name for those things with big antlers and deer was already taken.

I was also impressed. According to NBC, he's a humble guy who never seeks the limelight. Kinda refreshing in today's media-hyped celebrity society.

Wonder how he's viewed in his local community.

You know, if there is anything good that comes out of these tragic events, it's the opportunity to see people rise to the occasion in challenging circumstances.

In the case of the sniper, it was Chief Moose.

I don't know who was really commanding the sniper taskforce. It might have been Moose, or it might have been the FBI. But Moose was the one that fronted for it, facing the press and the cameras. If the task force had been unable to make any progress, it would have been Moose left to dangle.

There's no denying that Moose stepped into a very tough situation and did very well.

I was impressed by the events yesterday. Law enforcement as a whole looked very good. As soon as the taskforce had a scent, they moved with lightening speed, across the whole country. In hours it was over.

Listening to the news on a radio at work and hearing about the white van I saw one driving by. I looked out the window and saw two more parked. A week before the suspects were arrested I guessed the white van theory was weak.

The case also was a prime example of the quality of eye witnesses. Not!

    Chief Moose seemed quite impressive.
