I’m interested in examples of recipients of honorary doctorates actually using the title “Doctor” in educational, social, business, or political settings? Robert Schuller was mentioned in a prior thread. Any other examples?
Edwin Land, founder of Polaroid. His company PR department used to send out a testy letter if someone referred to him as "Mr." Dr. Billy Graham. I've heard from a few people questioning Dr. Heinz (later Henry) Kissinger, but I never checked. Dr. Winston O'Boogie. (A Google search for 'honorary doctorate' just now produced 84,000 hits. There have got to be a bunch out there that fit your criteria.) (The ads that appeared on Google for this search were first for Rushmore and 2nd for Walden. Sigh.)
I didn't realize Kissinger's doc was honorary. I had thought that since he taught at Harvard in the '50s that it was "real."
In 1954, Kissinger received a doctorate in government from Harvard University, where he served on the faculty until 1969.
One of my favorite John Lennon pseudonyms! A working class hero was something to be. How about Rush Limbaugh (called the "Doctor of Democracy")? He received an honorary doctorate from somewhere. Tony
What about Dr. Jerry Falwell? Dr. Oral Roberts? The late Dr. Ralph Abernathy (unsure about spelling). Roscoe
