    • ... Callahan found time to earn a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Columbia Southern University's correspondence program. He began taking two classes per semester in the fall of 1999. Over the Internet, Callahan downloaded and viewed lectures when he got off work. He read textbooks during his lunch periods and sometimes took days off to do research projects on subjects such as restorative justice, community policing and stress in law enforcement. He earned a 3.47 grade point average. The degree allows him someday to rise above the rank of lieutenant.
