I received the 2002-2003 application from Duke University (Form A), considering a class or two as a non-degree student--basically for personal enrichment. WOW! The tuition for a 3-hour class is $2460. Thats right, $820 per credit hour. This immediately changed the game plan. What I did find interesting is that the application, which is 19 pages in length, lists both US and non-US universities from which Duke accepts credits/degrees. The South African universities listed are: Potchefstroom Rhodes Cape Town Durban-Westville Natal Port Elizabeth Pretoria Unisa Stellenbosch Witwatersand I'm not sure why Rand Afrikaans or Zululand are not listed.
Also missing are Free State and Western Cape (both of which are more highly regarded than Port Elizabeth, for example). To complete the list, the other public South African universities (at least for the next few weeks) are Medical University of Southern Africa (Medunsa), North-West, Fort Hare, North, Transkei, Venda, Vista.
